Updates and Deadlines
(Updated Tuesday 4 October 2011)
Reminder:
Each Day's Event Begins at 9:00am (Doors open ~8:45am)
All attendees, including those with Advanced Reservations, will be admitted via check-in at the door. Anyone who has paid by check can expect their check to be deposited and processed later this week.
Remember to review the Flier and/or Registration Form for all other details or contact an event organizer for anything else we can answer about this upcoming weekend's activities.
Please Note: If you're attending Saturday and can arrive early (near 7:00am or any time well before 8:45) to assist with setting up the room and demo equipment, please contact Tres or Paul right away.
Advanced Registration Deadline Extended:
(to 6:00pm Wed 5 October 2011)
Good news if you need a little extra time to decide.
Dinner with the Artist:
This is a new, optional feature we've never offered before--the opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow turners and our Guest Artist at Dinner following Saturday's demonstrations. Since this dinner has been set up so each person or group orders and pays separately, extra family members or travel companions who aren't attending the Event are welcome to join everyone for Dinner with the Artist. Just note the number of diners in your party on the Registration Form and get your form submitted ASAP so we know how many tables to set aside.
If you missed our September meeting where it was officially announced, then you'll want to know the location for this Dinner is the covered Deck area* adjacent to the waterway and overlooking Lake Maurepas at Middendorf's Restaurant. Simply take the Pass Manchac exit off I-55 (Google Map directions), roughly a 45 minute drive from our Harahan venue. Middendorf's is extremely popular with residents across the entire metro area and less well known among visitors to New Orleans, but renowned for their catfish filets (served thick or thin) as well as other seafood dishes. As you can see from their menu, there's also plenty of other delicious fare for those who prefer something other than seafood.
Since everyone can arrive and leave independently, to provide time to pick up those extra family members or travel companions, we'll allow about an hour following the conclusion of Saturday's demos, although nothing is critical except knowing how many folks plan to participate. Dress is casual and based on the weather, which tends to moderate a little at this time of year.
At last report, the head count for this Dinner is not as high as I would have expected, which means those who do attend can expect lots of "face time" with Binh and fellow attendees. Even at double the count, this should be one of the most memorable occasions you'll ever experience as a woodturner.
*In the event the Deck is closed due to inclement weather, participants will be seated at tables inside the main restaurant. Middendorfs will attempt to keep everyone together, but cannot guarantee adjacent tables due to other diners who may have already been seated.
